2010 Scholarship Application Information:
Thank you to all the applications who submitted for a 2010 PAPER Foundation Scholarship.
The application period is now closed. Winners will be notified in late April.
The Program and its Purpose
The PAPER Foundation Scholarship Program has been established to reward academic excellence and to financially assist children and grandchildren of current employees of member companies of the NPTA Alliance.
Administration of the Program
All phases of the scholarship competition, including selection of recipients and determination of awards to be made, are managed by the Center for Essential Management Services (CEMS), Greenlawn , NY . The decision made by CEMS to award recipients is final. Any falsified information will mean immediate disqualification.
Conditions of Eligibility
- The applicant must be a child or grandchild of a current employee of a member company of the Paper And Plastics Education Research (PAPER) Foundation (all member companies of the NPTA Alliance are automatically members of the PAPER Foundation) Member-companies must be in good standing at the time scholarship application is made.
- The applicant must be in one of the following categories:
- Senior in high school planning to attend an accredited undergraduate college or university as a full-time student.
- Student currently enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore, or junior at an undergraduate accredited college or university.
- A current full-time employee of a NPTA member company who is also enrolled as a full- time student in undergraduate studies.
Application Procedure
- Applicants must be certain they meet the qualifications described in this document.
- Applicant must complete the four-page application form:
- Complete and sign the application
- Secure a current and official transcript
- Secure a teacher recommendation
- Send the completed application, recommendation, and official transcript in the same envelope to CEMS
- Application must be post marked by March 26, 2010; only mailed applications to CEMS will be accepted

The Selection Process
CEMS has total responsibility for selecting the award recipients on the basis of the student's academic record, participation in school activities, work experience, community service activities, financial need, unusual personal or family circumstances, and a teacher recommendation. CEMS receives the application and makes the selection of award recipients.
Scholarship Awards
Those applying need only to complete one application and will be considered for any awards they qualify for; all awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion or national origin.
- Four $2,500 Walter Duignan / Stanley O. Styles Scholarships
(Two awards based on academic achievement and two awards based on a combination of academic achievement and financial need)
- Multiple $1,000 PAPER Foundation Scholarships
(Awards based on academic achievement and financial need)
Announcement and Distribution of Awards
Recipients of awards will be notified by April 23, 2010. The awards will be made by CEMS on behalf of the PAPER Foundation. The award checks are payable jointly to the student and the institution that the recipient will be attending, and may be used to pay for tuition, books, lab fees, and/or other related educational expenses. The award checks will be mailed directly to the recipient's home address in August 2010.
The Responsibilities of the Student
Applicants to the PAPER Foundation Scholarship Program should remember that it is their responsibility to fulfill these requirements:
- Gather and submit the information necessary for CEMS to select you as a Scholarship recipient.
- Apply for admission to the colleges or universities of your choice (high school seniors).
- Meet the entrance requirements of the institutions you have chosen.
- Gain admission to the institution of your choice.
- If already a student at an accredited college or university, you must maintain academic standing.
Obligations
No obligation of any kind will be imposed upon award recipients, except to permit the PAPER Foundation or the NPTA Alliance to announce the names of recipients of the awards and to publish their pictures with a brief bio. The PAPER Foundation assumes no further obligation in connection with the granting of the awards. However, the PAPER Foundation reserves the right to alter or discontinue the PAPER Foundation Scholarship Program at any time.
Notes
- The applicant is solely responsible for returning the completed four-page application form and all associated materials to CEMS by March 26, 2010.
- Award recipients must notify the PAPER Foundation of their acceptance of the Scholarship Award by May 7, 2010. Contact NPTA Headquarters at 312.321.4092.
