JANUARY	Nichols Paper Products in Nichols, WI, has acquired the assets of Hi-Tech Plastics Film (Kaukauna WI) and changed their name to Hi-Tech Plastics Inc.
	CPAC, Inc. announced a new partnership with Lagasse Bros., Inc. (subsidiary of United Stationers).
	Brissman-Kennedy, Inc. and Nogg Chemical Paper have merged to form BKNogg Chemical & Paper in Des Moines, IA.
	>Mead Corporation announced the company sold its 50% ownership in Northwood Inc. to Canfor Corporation.
	Mead Corp. announced the establishment of the Mead Products division of its Mexican subsidiary, Mead Corporativo, S.A. de C.V.  Mead acquired certain assets of Comercializadora Zae, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico City.
	Tomar Industries Inc., Marlboro NJ, purchased the goodwill and certain assets of Clason Industries, Dover NJ.
	West Coast Paper announces a new relationship with Shanklin Corporation in the Pacific Northwest.
	Kimberly-Clark Corp. recently agreed to buy the Safeskin Corp. (disposable medical gloves).
FEBRUARY	Arjo Wiggins Appleton Merchanting Division announced it is changing its name to Antalis.
	Corporación Durango (Mexican-based international company) announced it entered into a definitive agreement with H G Estate LLC to acquire Gilman paper Co. in St. Marys, Georgia.
	American Paper Mills of Vermont, an affiliate of American Tissue Inc., concluded its previously announced agreement to acquire the Simpson Paper Co. mill in Gilman, VT.
	Caraustar Industries, Inc. announced it has entered into a letter of intent to acquire Arrow Paper Products Co., Inc., Saginaw, Michigan.
MARCH	UPM-Kymmene Corp., Helsinki, Finland and Champion International, Stamford, CT, announced their Boards of Directors have approved a definitive merger agreement.
	Stora Enso Oyj announced it has reached an agreement to acquire Consolidated Papers Inc.
	D & W Paper Co., New Orleans, LA will sell its printing paper distribution business to Mac Papers Inc., Jacksonville, FL.The transaction is expected to close the end of this month.
	International Paper agreed to acquire Shorewood Packaging Corp. in an all cash transaction. This transaction is expected to close the end of this month.
	PaperExchange.com, L.L.C. and International Paper announced they entered into a strategic alliance and listing agreement.
	Mail-Well, Inc. to acquire all the shares of the common stock of American Business Products, Inc. (based in Atlanta).
	West Coast Paper announced it has reached an agreement to purchase the assets of Alaska Paper of Anchorage, AK. Transaction was finalized January 7, 2000.
	Distribution One, Inc. (provider of software systems exclusively for wholesale distribution industry) announces the acquisition of Distribution management Systems, Inc. (developer and producer of the “Distribution Expert” software for wholesale distributors).
APRIL/MAY	International Paper, Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Weyerhaeuser Co. jointly announced they intend to develop a global business-to-business marketplace to enable buying and selling of paper and forest products on line.The companies plan to promptly complete a definitive agreement, finalize a business plan and enlist additional strategic partners including forest products companies and affiliated industry firms.
	Nashua Corp. agreed to acquire all of the stock of Rittenhouse Paper Co.
	PaperExchange.com, Inc. announced strategic alliances and listing agreements with Asia Pulp & Paper Co. Ltd., Staples and International Paper.
	FP International announced the acquisition of Flo-Pak (UK) Ltd., a manufacturer of polystyrene loose-fill in the United Kingdom.
	Fort James Corp. completed the sales of its wholly owned subsidiary, Fort James-Marathon, Ltd., to a joint venture between Tembec Inc. and Kruger Inc. (both of Montreal, Canada).
JUNE	International Paper reached a definitive merger agreement with Champion International after Finnish company, UPM-Kymmene withdrew from the bidding.  IP will purchase Champion for $75 per share in cash and stock.  IP’s offer is valued at approximately $7.3 billion, excluding $2.3 billion in net debt.
	Bowater Inc. and PaperExchange.com, Inc. announced the signing of agreements under which Bowater will offer newsprint for sales over the Internet on PaperExchange.com web site.
	Consolidated Papers and Stora Enso received U.S. antitrust approval for merger of the two companies.
	The Millcraft Group, Cleveland, OH, announced it entered into an agreement to purchase remaining shares and controlling interest of American Paper Company, Madison Heights, MI.  The new organization will be named Millcraft of Michigan and will be in the Detroit area.
	Clark Products announced merger with Paper Plus, Inc. (a NJ distributor of foodservice/janitorial products).
	Perkins Paper Inc., Taunton, MA announced the acquisition of Paper Unlimited Inc., Clinton, MA.
JULY	Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc. purchased assets of Surface Tech LLC from Azon Corp. and Mead Oxford Corp.
AUGUST	Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Fort James Corp. signed a definitive merger agreement for G-P to acquire all outstanding shares of FJ in a transaction valued at approx $11 billion.
	G-P entered into joint venture agreement with National Packaging Solutions Group to create Millennium Packaging Solutions, LLC (formerly Model Box Inc. of America).  G-P will serve as the operating partner of NPSG’s Chattanooga, TN based box plant.
	Domtar Inc. reached agreement to acquire Ris Paper Co., Inc.
	International Paper announced intent to sell its fine papers business.
	SupplyOne Inc., Devon, PA, acquired three packaging companies (Viking Criterion Corp., Whitmark, Inc., Corrugated Packaging & Design)
SEPTEMBER	Dade Paper & Bag Co. purchased Atlanta Broom Company.
	SupplyOne acquired four packaging companies in separate transactions (Weidner Plastics, Inc., Packaging Services of Carolina, Packaging Services Inc., Tidewater Container Corp.).
OCTOBER	UPM-Kymmene Corp. and Repap Enterprises Inc. announced they signed an acquisition agreement under which UPM-K acquires Repap in a transaction to be affected by way of an amalgamation.
	UPM-K’s The APRIL Group (Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Ltd.)  signed a definite share purchase agreement to sell APRIL’s 51 percent interest in the Changshu paper mill to UPM-K.
	>Westvaco Corp. announced a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in Alfred Wall AG, a European supplier of consumer packaging based in Graz, Austria.
	International Paper announced it has entered into an exclusive period of negotiations with Metsa-Serla of Finland regarding the sale of IP’s interest in Zanders Feinpapiere AG.
	Spicers Paper Inc. announced recently it has acquired 100 percent of the assets of Minnesota Paper Co.
	Scholle Corp. announced the acquisition of Custom Packaging Systems, Inc., located in Michigan.
NOVEMBER	National Envelope Corp. acquired Williamhouse from American Pad & Paper Co.  Acceptance was approved by the Federal Court overseeing AP&P’s Chapter 11 Bankruptcy status.
	Gould Paper Corp. and WWF Paper Corp. announced a strategic Joint Venture with projected annual sales of the jointly owned Gould/WWF entities in excess of $1.6 billion.
	Caraustar Industries acquired Arrow Paper Products of Saginaw, MI.
	The Mead Corp. joins ForestExpress (a global business-to-business electronic marketplace for forest products industry) as an equity partner, along with founding partners Georgia-Pacific, International Paper and Weyerhaeuser.
DECEMBER	Weyerhaeuser Company confirmed that on Nov. 6 it sent a letter to Willamette Industries, Inc. proposing to acquire all outstanding common stock of Willamette for $48 per share in cash.  The Willamette board met on November 10, but did not reach a decision.
	ForestExpress has announced partnerships with Boise Cascade Corp. and Willamette Industries, Inc.  Both companies join ForestExperss as equity partners alongside of G-P, IP, Weyerhaeuser, and Mead Corp.
	Mead Corp. and Moore Corp. Ltd. Announced agreement for Mead to acquire the carbonless coating operations of Moore North America ( a subsidiary of Moore Corp. Ltd.).
	The Millcraft Group entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Cordage Paper’s Pittsburgh and Indianapolis locations.
	Bunzl Distribution Inc. announced an agreement in principle to purchase the packaging and plant operations supplies business of Koch Supplies Inc.  The purchase does not include the Koch Equipment Division.
	American Tissue announced the acquisition of Global Tissue Corp. of Memphis, TN.
