Butler Paper announced the incorporation of The Southern New England Paper Co.
APRIL Diem & Wing, Cincinnati, and its C.P. Lesh division in Indiana changed their names to Ris Paper on April 1st.  Ris had acquired both in 1994.
MAY Paper Corporation of America officially acquired International Corp.’s Unijax division.
JUNE Hammermill said it would acquire The Dowd Company, Woburn, MA.
JULY James River sold the continuing business of its Crown Zellerbach subsidiary, Zellerbach Distribution group, to Mead Corp. for $250 million.  Agreement provides for the continued distribution of Crown products after the acquisition.  Mead, which acquired facilities in 42 cities, says the acquisition will more than double its distribution business.
AUGUST Hammermill agreed to acquire Paper Supply Co., Kansas City, MO.  Paper Supply became part of CDA Distributors, a Hammermill Division.
Bunzl bought G.B. Goldman, Philadelphia.
SEPTEMBER All States Paper of Dallas purchased Barron Paper, also of Dallas.
NOVEMBER Nationwide Papers acquired LaSalle Messinger distribution center.
Cardinal Paper acquired some of Oklahoma Papers assets.
DECEMBER Wilder Industries, Philadelphia, acquired Didco Paper Co., also of Philadelphia.
