Paper Corp. of America formed a new paper distribution company when it combined segments of its subsidiary, Baldwin Paper with another subsidiary, Saxon Paper Co. . . . the combined organization, Unisource Metro.  Other operating units of Baldwin became part of Websource, a PCA Co.
James River completed the sale of its specialty & industrial papers mill in Pepperell, MA to Merrimac Paper.
FEBRUARY Oji Paper, Japan’s biggest paper-maker, and Kanzaki Paper Mfg., said they would merge on Oct. 1.
American Israeli Paper Mills said it would acquire Molett Paper Mills Ltd.
Abitibi-Price to transfer ownership of its coated paper mill in Thunder Bay, Ontario to a new company formed by the mill’s employees . . .Assn. of Independent Printing Paper Merchants (AIPPM).

Georgia-Pacific signed a letter of intent to sell Butler Paper to Alco Standard.

Alco also bought Remco Business Products, San Diego.
International Paper said it would buy Ingram Paper, Los Angeles.
Gilman Paper said it would acquire JD Sky Corp.  The new company operates as Gilman Communications Products.
The Boston Paper Trade Association and the New England paper Merchants decided they would merge on April 14 when BPTA would become the New England Paper Trade Assn.

JULY G-P completed the sale of Butler Paper to Alco Standard.
MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. and Noranda Forest Inc. sold their 50% interest in Island Paper Mills to E.B. Eddy.
AUGUST Cross Pointe paper said it would buy the Dayton, OH div. of Badger Paper Mills.
Rolland sold its 49% stake in PWA Rolland Decor.
The Japan FTC asked Oji Paper Co. and Kanzaki Paper Mfg. to sell part of their holdings.
Arjo Wiggins Appleton (AWA) joined with Indonesia’s PT Risjadson to acquire a 55% stake in state-owned PT Kertas Padalarang.

SCI Investors, Richmond, VA, and nine senior execs from Custom Papers completed the purchase of Custom Papers Group from Bowater.
Robert H. Berkowitz, chairman, Central Paper Co. and William L. Ostroff, president, Lewmar Paper Co., announced the intention to merge their two companies . . . to be called Central Lewmar Distribution Services Inc.
