The Young Leaders Division (YLD) of the NPTA Alliance is a vibrant leadership group of those 45 years of age and younger who are in management (decision-making) roles in their companies. The YLD brings this program to the Annual Management Conference, but you need not meet the YLD age qualification to attend.

In addition to the program at the Conference, the YLD offers very important networking opportunities, educational programs, a luncheon/educational program at the Annual Convention and more. Those interested in joining the YLD may find more information online. Go to www.gonpta.com and click on the YLD tab at the top of the home page.

One of the excellent programs that the Young Leaders Division oversees is NPTA’s
Management Development Program held at Miami University in Oxford, OH. This educational program is equivalent to going back to school for your “master’s degree in paper distribution.” Graduates of this program will be gathering for a reunion during the Annual Management Conference.

2 pm - 4:30 pm Young Leaders Day Registration

4:30 pm - 8 pm Welcome Event: Kilimanjaro Safari and Dinner
The group will transported to and from the Animal Kingdom and the Boardwalk Hotel.

You will have time to mingle and reunite with many business contacts. A great networking event for all! (All registered attendees, spouses, guests and children are invited to attend.)

You will arrive “backstage” and begin your Disney Animal Kingdom safari where you should “Expect the Unexpected!” Upon disembarking into the lush tropical landscape, you will be escorted past what appears to be an abandoned train station. You will be led through the winding pathway by your guide, and after a short orientation, you will board camouflaged trucks for the Kilimanjaro Safari. You will travel a twisting trail through lush green forests, across rivers with waterfalls to the Serengeti grasslands rich with animals of the wild. You will arrive at Harambe, an East African port city to wander the streets. Then, you will come to the Tusker House to enjoy a reception and dinner. All adventurers will enjoy entertainment and some magical moments. This is an experience not to be missed!

All NPTA Alliance Management Development Program graduates will be honored at this event.

8 am – 9 am   Young Leaders Breakfast
Welcome by the YLD Chairman
Derek Wallace, Vice President Sales
The Eastern Bag & Paper Company

9 am – Noon   Business Ethics
The Silent Career Killer
Presented by:William B. Bregman, CEO, Deltapaper
Adjunct Professor, Villanova University

Bad ethical decisions, unlike bad business decisions which can be overcome, will follow you for the rest of their lives. Nothing is lost when you lose money because a valuable lesson is always learned. Everything is lost when you lose your character. In today’s world there are stories in the news every day showing poor outcomes for executives who erred when choosing a course of action stories in the news every day showing poor outcomes for executives who erred when choosing a course of action.

During this session Bill Bregman will present a framework for ethical decision-making that is based on the real-world and has practical applications. Participants will be provided with practical checklists that they can use to recognize their self-interest, their tendencies, and to understand and deal with chaotic environments.

When you finish the program, you will better understand yourself and your environment, you will also be able to define and illustrate sustainable business practices, which, in essence, is ethical corporate behavior. Today’s leading corporations pursue a triple bottom line: profitability, respect for people, and caring for the environment. This program is especially timely and relevant to young leaders, with their major life decisions still ahead of them. At the end of the day all one has is his or her reputation and integrity.

Noon - 1:30 pm Young Leaders' Luncheon
    Responsibilities of Tomorrow's Leaders
    Featured Speaker: Fred Towler,
Director Global Sourcing - Corporate Services, International Paper

Fred Towler is the Past Chairman of the Young Leaders Division of the NPTA Alliance, has served on the Association’s Board of Directors, and is currently the Chairman of the Board of NPTA. He knows first hand the value of participation in industry activities as a way to increase your knowledge-base and the value of networking with peers. He will address the group about how these aspects of business have helped build his career.

1:30 pm - 5 pm   Team Building Pursuit at the Disney Institute
Presented by: The Disney Institute Leadership
The group will transported to and from the Disney Institute and the Boardwalk Hotel.

Featuring activities available only though the Disney Institute, this program encourages the group to focus on critical team success factors such as collaboration, leadership, and trust, in an exciting environment of discovery. Following a brief introduction to teamwork, the group will be divided into teams and given supplies for a “hunt” in a unique Disney environment. Of course, expect a few surprises along the way, and a “bonus” or two as well. This adds to the overall experience that will be challenging and a lot of fun!

The team will be introduced to the dynamics of successful teams to prepare them for participating together successfully in “the hunt.” After a quick warmup activity, and final instructions, the teams are unleashed into the surrounding area and the hunt begins. After completion, the group is debriefed and learning about team building is reinforced. Awards and prizes are also part of the fun.
