Just as is often the case on January 1 of each year, July 1 also tends to bring a round of new employment regulations across numerous states. A sampling of new requirements includes:

Minimum Wage. States where the minimum wage increased in July include the District of Columbia, Maryland and Oregon. Additionally, locales within California and Illinois have enacted higher minimum wage rates this month.

Leave Laws. A patchwork of leave laws have gone into effect this month for Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Mexico, and New York, as well as in Chicago and Minneapolis.

Other laws enacted this month include franchise protections in Arizona and South Dakota; criminal history use or inquiries in California, Indiana, Montana, Vermont, and West Virginia; and discrimination or accommodation protections in California, Nevada, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming.

If you have any questions about the regulations in your state, please email us at or call 877-660-6400 and we’ll be happy to discuss.
